Xavier High’s baseball team got back in the win column Thursday as senior right-hander Brendan Lenehan scattered six hits in a complete-game 2-1 victory over Fitch in Groton.
Luke Lappe singled home the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as the Falcons (3-4) ended a three-game losing streak.
Lenehan allowed an earned run, walked four and struck out seven in his 107-pitch, seven-inning outing.
Bryan Hammen’s RBI single in the fifth gave Xavier a 1-0 lead and Lappe’s hit in the sixth produced a two-run cushion. Fitch (3-4) scored its only run in the sixth.
Kyle Signora, Nick Salemi, Nick DeBrizzi and Bryce Pill accounted for the Falcons’ other four hits.
Nathan Whipple took the loss for Fitch. He allowed both Xavier runs on three hits over five-plus innings, striking out four. Max Grossman got the final six outs.
Xavier is off until Monday, when it plays Lyman Hall at 4 p.m. at Palmer Field.
