After a record-breaking kickoff to Week 6, which saw Arkeel Newsome (right) become the state’s all-time leading rusher and Harold Cooper crack the 6,000-yard barrier, a full slate of intriguing games kick off Friday night, including the mother load of the SWC-NVL Challenge — Bunnell vs. Naugatuck, Seymour vs. Oxford, Newtown vs. Wolcott. The biggest game of the night might be at Ken Strong Stadium, where a pair of 4-1 teams attempting to keep their state playoff hopes alive, do battle. It’s Xavier vs. West Haven. Longtime West Haven coach Ed McCarthy can tie Bill Mignault as Connecticut’s all-time coaching wins leader with a victory. Just as crucial is Fairfield Prep (4-1) at Hand (4-1) in a battle at The Surf Club. In the CCC, a battle of unbeaten teams commences when Windsor (5-0) faces Farmington (5-0). In the FCIAC, Trumbull (4-1) and Greenwich (3-2) are also trying to stay afloat. Stick with us as we round up all of Friday’s games.
