Tyler Woodward shot a 78 to lead the way for the Coginchaug golf team, which won its third consecutive Shoreline Conference tournament title Wednesday at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain.
The Blue Devils finished with 333 strokes, 11 better than runner-up Old Lyme. Hale-Ray and Old Saybrook tied for third (356) and Portland placed fifth (357).
Corey Drummond from Old Lyme was the medalist with a 77. Teammate Peter Macadam shot an 80 and Old Saybrook’s Ben O’Dell shot an 81.
Kingswood Invitational Tournament
Jackson Roman of Hamden Hall shot a 4-under 66 at Oak Ridge CC in Feeding Hill, Massachusetts, setting a new scoring record for the tournament.
Ben James, also of Hamden Hall, tied the old record with a 68. The sophomore and freshman, respectively, finished 1-2 in the tournament. James tied for second last year. Hamden Hall finished third out of 22 teams with 382 strokes, its best finish ever. Avon Old Farms won the title (375 strokes, a team tournament scoring record) and Phillips Exeter Academy placed second (380).
