Wednesday's Greater Middletown roundup: Middletown boys soccer stuns Bristol Central

Middletown 3, Bristol Central 2 >> The streaking Blue Dragons extended their unbeaten streak to six and won their fifth in a row, stunning CCC South division foe Bristol Central Tuesday night at Rosek-Skubel Stadium. Middletown, which lost to Central 5-1 earlier in the season, took a 3-0 lead, then held off the Rams’ late rally to improve to 7-4-2. Central fell to 8-5, 8-3 in the CCC South. “We played very well, especially in the first half,” said Blue Dragons coach Sal Emanuele. “Our plan was to come out attacking and we were able to do that.” Middletown took a 1-0 lead immediately, scoring on a goal by Umberto Spada just 77 seconds into the match. The Dragons took a 2-0 lead with 35:39 left in the match on a goal by Tom DiMauro, then Lucas Saunders scored on a direct kick with 34:34 showing on the clock.
Central’s Chris Dabkowski scored on a penalty kick, then scored again with 9:29 left to make it 3-2. “We had to sweat a little at the end,” said Emanuele. “I think we relaxed a bit with a 3-0 lead thinking maybe the game was over, but we held on.”
Bue Dragons goalie Chris Rodo made 11 saves, while goalie while Evan Tavera had eight saves for the Rams.
Middletown is home Friday at 7 p.m. against Platt of Meriden at The Stadium.
Cromwell 4, Old Saybrook 2 (2 OT) >> Derek Parker (two assists) and Ardit Statovci scored overtime goals as the Panthers slipped past the Rams in a battle of of SLC leaders Tuesday night at Cromwell. Thomas Mantel scored two goals for the Panthers, while Justin Grant and Ryan Hopley each had one assist. Goalie Ryan Murphy made 10 saves as Cromwell improved to 9-2, 8-1 SLC. Danny Murphy had two goals, while goalies Mike Rose and Nick Sumby combined for six saves for Old Saybrook (10-1-1).
Xavier 2, West Haven 1 >> Joe Zacchia scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 33rd minute, as the Falcons remained unbeaten with an SCC win Tuesday night at West Haven. Goalie Dan Miela made two saves for Xavier (10-0-3). George Oppong scored the Blue Devils goal, while goalie Dan Prendergast made one save. West Haven is 5-3-4.

Girls volleyball
Haddam-Killingworth 3, Hale-Ray 0 >> Olivia Parmelee had 17 aces to lead the Cougars to a 25-9, 25-2 and 26-24 sweep Wednesday at Higganum. Kayla Gesek had nine kills for H-K (14-2, 12-2 SLC). Eliza Burke had six kills, five digs, and one ace for the Little Noises (9-6, 8-6 SLC).
Kaynor Tech 3, Vinal Tech 0 >> Cinthia Vega had five aces and eight assists as Kaynor (6-7) swept the Hawks 25-18, 25-12 and 25-9 at Middletown. Erin Crowley had 10 points, including three aces, for Vinal Tech (1-14).
Mercy 3, North Haven 0 >> The Tigers swept the Indians 25-17, 25-18 and 25-12 at Middletown. Jess Hoops had 30 assists, Grace Brodeur had 11 kills and six digs. and Fran Basadonna had nine aces and six digs for Mercy (12-2). North Haven fell to 5-9.
Morgan 3, East Hampton 0 >> The Huskies remained unbeaten with a 25-13, 25-12 and 25-9 SLC win at Clinton. Lily Dawson had 32 assists and Jen Dawson had 25 kills for Morgan (16-0). Dakota Reed had 15 kills and 10 digs, and Grace Foles had 12 digs for East Hampton (10-4).
Valley Regional 3, Cromwell 0 >> The Warriors rolled 25-13, 25-19 and 25-8 at Deep River. Leah Sopneski had 10 points, including four aces, two kills and four digs for Valley (7-9). Stephanie Hartnett had 10 digs, four aces, and three kills for Cromwell (3-10).
