Lyme-Old Lyme 2, Coginchaug 2 (Old Lyme wins PKs 3-2) >> The No. 4 Wildcats advanced to the Shoreline Conference championship game with a semfinal round victory against the top-seeded Blue Devils Wednesday at Durham. Coginchuag led 2-1 at halftime on goals from Amy Arcari and Kim Romanoff. The Blue Devils held that one-goal lead until Wildcats junior Meredith Aird scored a goal with 10 minutes left in regulation. Aird had also tied the game at 1 with a first half goal. After a scoreless 20-minute overtime period, Old Lyme edged the Blue Devils, 3-2, in penalty kicks. “You battle for 100 minutes and PKs is a tough way to lose the game,” said Coginchaug coach Megan Kavanaugh. Goalie Tori Sims made 18 saves for Old Lyme (11-5-1). Victoria Buonanni had two assist, while goalie Kara Mather made 14 saves for the Blue Devils (12-4-1). “We were a ltitle unlucky today,” said Kavanaugh. “We’ve got eight seniors and we’re hoping this gives us some motivation for the state tournament.”
Portland 2, Haddam-Killingworth 0 >> Amanda Ghent scored two first half goals and goalie Marisa DiMare preserved the shutout with six saves as the Highlanders advanced to the SLC championship game with a semifinal win against the Cougars Wednesday at Portland. Jackie Otake had an assist for No. 2 Portland (13-4-0). Goalie Tevi Ferguson made five saves for No. 3 H-K (10-5-2). “It was a battle,” said Portland coach Sandy Booth. “We were fortunate enough to slip two goals by their keeper and we played very well defensively.” Portland, the defending SLC champions, will meet Old Lyme in a rematch of last year’s SLC championship game on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Indian River Complex in Clinton.
