As Ned “Polecat” Griffen said in an earlier post at TheDay.com, Week 6 was ‘the one with the records.’
Or, as we’ll call it, ‘The Night the Records fell.’
Ansonia’s Arkeel Newsome set the all-time state rushing record with a 57-yard touchdown run vs. Masuk. Ed McCarthy tied Bill Mignault atop the all-time coaching wins list with 321. Harold Cooper didn’t break a state record, but he etched his name high atop the state record books with his 6,000th rushing yard vs. Sheehan.
They’re all included in this edition of PLAYS. OF. THE WEEK.
Also included (deep breath) plays from Manchester’s crazy 68-41 win over Conard, Middletown-Bristol Central, Ludlowe-Norwalk, Hand-Prep, Barlow-Torrington, Danbury’s valiant effort vs. Staples, the wild, wild, wild, Trumbull-Greenwich game, Oxford-Seymour, Westhill-Central, Granby Memorial’s comeback vs. Lewis Mills.
Conspicuously missing was Bethel’s performance vs. Derby and Hall’s awesome victory over Southington. Get on that, guys. We want your submissions.
Submit your plays of week 6. Deadline is Tuesday at 6, but we’d like them as soon as Monday. Email Sean Patrick Bowley at firstname.lastname@example.org or Tweet at us @GameTimeCT or @SPBowley. You can’t get consideration if you don’t send us your video links.
Add: Looks like Notre Dame-West Haven’s Sal Esposito made the National Federation of State High Schools Network’s NATIONAL plays of the week. His play is not featured here, unfortunately for us.
