On Wednesday, 12 student-athletes from Cheshire Academy made their college choices official.
Alexis Holmes of Hamden announced she will run track at Penn State. Rachel Abraham will play lacrosse at Longwood University and Mia Leko will swim at Dartmouth.
Also, Arnas Sabonis signed to play men’s tennis at Fairfield and eight Cats baseball players inked NLIs: JD Funk (Tennessee Tech), Gavin Sullivan (Stetson), Liam Sullivan (Holy Cross), Vinny Kasholo (Army), Jack Bebbington (Marist), Drew Nemirow (Stony Brook), Jack DePaolo-Boisvert (Albany) and Danny Smucker (Saint Anselm).
Holmes is the first female from Cheshire Academy to run Division I track and chose the Nittany Lions over Georgetown, Rutgers and UConn. She also received a surprise from her brother, CJ Holmes, now a running back at Notre Dame. Holmes sent a message via video congratulating and praising his younger sister.
Holmes is a two-time Junior Olympic All-American in the 200M and the 400M. She has posted times of 54.4 in the 400M, a 24.2 in the 200M and a 12.2 in the 100M, all personal bests. Holmes is also a standout volleyball player for the Cats and had garnered Division I interest for basketball.
