The holiday season is winding down. Only New Years remains before it’s back to school for the lot of you.
But the state’s basketball teams are are already back in action at various post-Christmas holiday tournaments and other competitive endeavors.
They weren’t playing a holiday tournament up in Windsor Locks. It was their 2017-18 home opener, however. And the Raiders gave their first home crowd a treat while maintaining their unbeaten record with this sweet, solo buzzer-beater by Chavon Geroge in a 46-44 victory over Coginchaug Wednesday night.
With the score tied at 44 and just over 8 seconds remaining, George, a senior guard, took an inbounds in the backcourt and sprinted upcourt. He fought off a double team that had diverted him left, maintained control and put up a running, one-handed jumper for the winner at the buzzer as he was carried out of bounds.

Windsor Locks (3-0) faces Suffield at home Friday night to close out 2017. Coginchaug fell to 2-1.
