Hunter Baillargeon lets his winning 3-pointer fly in an ECC Division II tournament quarterfinal victory over Griswold.
It’s playoff time in Connecticut and, on the first big night of the postseason we had our first glorious buzzer-beating winner from the Eastern Connecticut Conference.
And it had to be St. Bernard and Griswold. Of course it had to.
The schools split two overtime meetings in the regular season. And their quarterfinal showdown seemed destined for a third OT.
ECC Division I & II tournament brackets
St. Bernard led Griswold for most of the game. But Griswold hung around and, just after St. Bernard guard Hunter Baillargeon gave the Saints an 38-35 lead with 19 seconds remaining, Griswold went right back and tied it at 38 on Nate Tedeschi’s 3-pointer with 12 seconds left.
St. Bernard inbounded to Baillargeon. The ball never left his hands until it was time to shoot.
He walked the ball up court, pump faked at the 3-point line and then let fly his winning shot which rattled in at the horn for a 41-38 victory.
St. Bernard advances to face No. 1 seeded Plainfield, a 64-32 winner over Montville, in the semifinals Saturday, 2 p.m. at Waterford.
This has been #TweetYourBuzzerBeaters.
