Third-seeded Ridgefield has made a blessed run through these FCIAC boys basketball playoffs.
In Saturday’s quarterfinals, the third-seeded Tigers advanced over Fairfield Warde on Nick Laudati’s turnaround layup at the buzzer.
In Tuesday night’s semifinals, the Tigers did it again.
This time it was Matt Esemplare doing the honors with this 3-pointer at the horn to force overtime with tournament upstart Danbury. Watch the footage, above, from the HAN Network stream of the game.
But wait, there’s more.
With seconds left to go in overtime, the senior guard tied the game up *again* on this drive to the hoop with just a few ticks left. (This footage via a frustrated CT Post reporter Doug Bonjour)

Thankfully for the reporters on deadline, including Bonjour, Ridgefield managed to hold off Danbury in the second overtime and punch their tickets to their first FCIAC championship.
Their opponents, none other than border rival Wilton, which dumped No. 1-seeded Trumbull in the other semifinal to reach *its* first championship game.
Wilton and Ridgefield have, perhaps, one of the state’s most acrimonious rivalries, maybe even more spiteful than Darien-New Canaan, given some of the incidents between the two schools in recent years.
And a huge crowd is expected for this unexpected final — the first All-Suburb final since Trumbull played New Canaan in 1983. So there’s already talk of moving it to another site closer to the two towns. Maybe WestConn.
Can we suggest “under the highway” a la West Side Story?
