No. 32-seeded Bristol Central led No. 31 Bethel by a point and was 9 seconds from advancing to the Class L boys basketball tournament’s first round vs. Newington.
But Bethel, the team that brought you this buzzer-beating winner vs. New Milford, and this one vs. Barlow at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, wasn’t about to let their season end without another chance to make magic.
The Wildcats reached into their spellbook and produced this clutch putback by Mike Walters at the buzzer for the 49-48 victory.

Bethel at first looked to freshman Chris Towey, who was responsible for the team’s buzzer-beating shot vs. New Milford. This time, however, Towey’s shot rattled in and out.
But, oh that pesky rebound. It gravitated right to the 6-foot-2 Walters. He made like an all-state volleyball setter while falling back and pushed the back back at the rim for the win.
Will Daniels led the team with 22 points. Bethel advances to face No. 2-seeded Newington in the first round of the Class L tournament.
By our count, this makes Bethel’s boys basketball team the 2016 king of winning buzzer-beaters.
Your move, Waterford.
