Bethel was the king of #TweetYourBuzzerBeaters last season. The Wildcats had — what? — Four or so?
So we’re not shocked it took just under a month before we heard from Bethel this season.
And surprise, surprise, this winner came from one of last season’s heroes, Matt Marx, who beat Barlow at the Barlclay’s Center on this same kind of play last year.
Unlike last year, this one was all Marx.
Moments after Stratford tied the score at 69-69 on a great setup and 3-point shot by Nate Shields with 10 seconds left, Marx took the inbounds pass and drove all the way to the hoop and scored just before the buzzer sounded in a 71-69 victory.
(The footage, courtesy of Coach Dennis Morsey, cuts off just after Marx’s winner. We actually timed it and there was about 2 seconds left when Marx’s shot dropped through. But close enough.)
Welcome back to the party, Bethel.
Marks finished with 21 points to lead Bethel. Shields led all scorers with 29.
Bethel improved to 5-1. Stratford fell to 1-5.
This has been #TweetYourBuzzerBeaters.
