Thomaston girls tennis earned its first Berkshire League title in school history after defeated Northwestern 7-0. The Golden Bears’ MacKenzie Blair defeated Jaiden Dropick 8-0. Megan Fitzgerald defeated Annaliese Bertell 8-0. Thomaston’s doubles team of Rhianon Mecca and Jessenia Gonzalez defeated Libby Harwood and Megan Janco 8-1. Thomaston is 15-0, Northwestern is 9-7.
Thomaston 7, Terryville 3 >> Down three runs in the seventh with two outs, Thomaston rallied to score seven runs to defeat Terryville. The Golden Bears’ Tyler Donofrio, Blaise Russo, Justin Taylor, Matt Tehan, Jake Tehan, Dan LeVassuer and Mike Millius each drove in key RBI’s in the seventh. Brian Butkevicius went the distance to pick up the victory, striking out three. Terryville’s Taylor Donofrio got the loss, pitching 6 2/3 and striking out three.
Gilbert 4, Wamogo 3 >> Danny LaChance and Nate Marshall led Gilbert past Wamogo. LaChance hit the go-ahead double in the sixth, breaking a 3-3 tie. Nate Marshall pitched a stellar game for Gilbert, striking out 13 and allowing just two hits. Wamogo’s Tristan Pepin had an RBI double. Gilbert is 3-15, Wamogo is 7-11.
Lewis Mills 17, Northwestern 4 >> Lewis Mills brought their bats against Northwestern. The Spartans scored eight runs in the first inning. Max Wadington went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Greg Campbell went 4-for-4 with two RBI. Northwestern’s Zach Risedorf went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs. Lewis Mills’ Justin Gallicchio picked up the victory, striking out five.
Shepaug 4, Kennedy 1 >> Shepaug’s Wes Meeker went the distance, leading the Spartans past Kennedy. Meeker allowed just five hits and struck out six. Logan Racz went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Kennedy’s John McMahon went 2-for-3.
Shepaug 12, Housatonic 1 >> Behind a four run first inning, Shepaug got past Housatonic. The Spartans’ Sam Jones went 2-for-2 with three RBI. Ryan Lamay went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Wes Meeker and Travis Fitch combined to strike out 10 Mountaineers. Housatonic’s Willy Yahn went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and stolen base.
Thomaston 16, Terryville 0 >> Morgan Sanson pitched a no-hitter to lead Thomaston past Terryville. Sanson struck out seven in the victory and went 3-for-4 from the plate including a home run and four RBI. Erin O’Neill went 3-for-4 with a triple and one RBI. Sam Brostek went 1-for-1 with a triple and two RBI. Thomaston is 16-2.
Northwestern 14, Lewis Mills 8 >> Northwestern earned its 18th victory of the season and clinched the outright Berkshire League title by defeating Lewis Mills. The Highlanders’ Alyssa Castellani picked up the victory, striking out three. Kelsi Hodgkin went 3-for-4 with a home run. Michaela Cisowski went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Lewis Mills’ Karlie Neuhausset went 3-for-4, Paige Reid went 2-for-3 with a double. Northwestern is 18-1.
Nonnewaug 5, Litchfield 0 >> Nonnewaug earned its 16th victory of the season by defeating Litchfield. The Chiefs’ Aaron Pezzullo defeated Alex Mendez 6-0, 6-0. Nonnewaug’s doubles team of Jacob Field and Zach Matta defeated Jan Ritzenhoff and Josh Pang 6-1, 6-0. Nonnewaug is 16-0, Litchfield is 0-15.
Northwestern 4, Thomaston 1 >> Northwestern got past Thomaston at home. The Highlanders’ Alec Royer defeated Rob Archibald 6-3, 7-5. The Golden Bears’ Jack Hartle defeated Jakrin Lanphouthacoul 6-1, 6-3. Northwestern’s doubles team of Jordan Scherling and Winter Thorne-Kaunelis defeated Ben Parietario and Chris Lockhart 6-0, 6-0. Northwestern is 11-4, Thomaston is 8-7.
Torrington 182, Woodland 186 >> Led by Tylar Young’s 41 the Red Raiders beat the Woodland Hawks. Adam LaMothe shot a 45 for the Red Raiders.
Berkshire League All-Star tournament >> Shepaug’s Robert McCarthy won the tournament, shooting a 5-over 77. Griffin Ylagan shot a 78. Both players were named to the All-Star team. Andrew Loya finished with a 91. State finals will take place June. 11th at Timberlan Golf Course.
