Torrington’s Olivia Morrison scored the only goal for the Red Raiders in its 6-1 loss to New Milford.

TORRINGTON >> The Torrington girls soccer team fell to Class LL opponent New Milford 6-1 Tuesday night. With a conference game coming up on Wednesday Torrington head coach Mario Longobucco wanted to keep his starters fresh. “We have a big game on Wednesday, so if it wasn’t our day I would pull the starters early,” he said. The Red Raiders lone goal of the game came from Olivia Morrison, who tied the game at 1-1 during the first half, but New Milford scored two more times in the first half to extend its lead to 3-1, before scoring three more goals in the second half to pull away from the Red Raiders.
“That’s the type of team that we will fact in the State tournament,” said Longobucco.
Girls soccer
Shepaug 2, Gilbert 1 >> Shepaug edged Gilbert on the road. The Spartans’ Caroline Kelly and Taylor Weston each scored a goal for Shepaug. Gilbert’s Jaden Arcelaschi scored the lone goal for the Yellowjackets. Shepaug’s Samantha Moravsky made five saves in the victory. Gilbert is 0-9.
Boys soccer
Nonnewaug 7, Litchfield 2 >> Nonnewaug went on an offensive outburst to defeat Litchfield and remain undefeat. The Chiefs scored five goals in the first half. Nonnewaug’s Jack Kingdon scored a hat trick. Will Marshall scored two goals. Jake Firliys had three assists. Litchfield’s Brandon Hookstadt and Alec Green each scored a goal for the Cowboys. Nick Andro and Buell Alvord combined to make seven saves. Nonnewaug is 9-0-2, Litchfield is 4-5-2.
Lewis Mills 6, Thomaston 0 >> Lewis Mills remained undefeated after shutting out Thomaston. Lewis Mills’ Freddy Marinelli and Ryan Finley each scored two goals. Seth Ouellette had three assists. Thomaston’s Shane O’Bar made six saves. Lewis Mills is 8-0-3, Thomaston is 2-8-1.
University/Prince Tech 5, Wolcott Tech 0 >> University/Prince Tech earned its 12th victory of the season, defeating Wolcott Tech. University’s Tyler Sartor scored a hat teick in the victory. Wolcott Tech’s Kyle Jansen made eight saves. University/Prince Tech is 12-0-1, Wolcott Tech is 3-8-1.
Northwestern 2, Shepaug 1 >> Northwestern scored early to get out in front of Shepaug. The Highlanders’ Christian Royer and Connor LaBreck each scored a goal in the first half. Shepaug’s Nick Andrews scored the lone goal for the Spartans and was assisted by Dan Geyer. Shepaug’s Will Harris made eight saves. Northwestern is 5-3-3, Shepaug is 3-7-1.
Girls volleyball
Nonnewaug 3, Wilcox Tech 1 >> Nonnewaug got off to a slow start but rebounded quickly to win the four set match against Wilcox Tech. The Chief’s won (21-25; 25-16; 25-21; 25-20). Nonnewaug’s Molly Masi had eight kills, one ace and eight digs. Tatiana Veranko had two aces and 10 digs. Wilcox Tech’s Kathryn Mazzucco had 18 assists and 10 digs. Nonnewaug is 3-8, Wilcox Tech is 10-3.
Northwestern 3, Canton 1 >> Northwestern earned its seventh victory of the season, defeating Canton. The Highlanders won (25-7; 25-15; 24-26; 25-15). Gina Folino had 19 assists, four kills, two aces and two digs. Canton’s Olivia Pelehach had three kills and one block. Northwestern is 7-4, Canton is 3-12.
Wolcott Tech 3, Vinal Tech 0 >> Wolcott Tech defeated Vinal Tech in straight sets. The Wildcats won (25-12; 25-7; 25-7). Casey Farrington had 25 assists, five aces and nine digs. Kimmie Stack had eight kills and eight aces. Wolcott Tech is 12-2, Vinal Tech is 1-13.
Lewis Mills 3, Terryville 2 >> Lewis Mills defeated Terryville in five sets. Lewis Mills won (25-20; 25-14; 23-25; 20-25; 15-10). The Spartans’ Hannah Doyle had 10 aces, six kills and 46 assists. Terryville’s Libby Rhahimi had two aces, seven kills and 14 digs. Lewis Mills is 11-2, Terryville is 7-7.
Housatonic 3, Gilbert 0 >> Housatonic cruised to victory in straight sets against Gilbert. The Mountaineers won (25-10; 25-15; 25-17). Abby Wilson had 12 aces and four kills. Gilbert’s Niki Nash had two aces, six kills and 10 digs. Housatonic is 7-5, Gilbert is 1-12.
Field hockey
Lewis Mills 4, Shepaug 0 >> Lewis Mills shut out Shepaug to earn its seventh victory of the season. Lewis Mills’ Ally Jackson and Jackie Duba each scored two goals in the victory. Jackson added an assist. Shepaug’s Rachel Genua made five saves. Lewis Mills is 7-4-1, Shepaug is 5-5.
Thomaston 4, Wamogo 0 >> Thomaston remained undefeated after shutting out Wamogo at home. Thomaston’s Morgan Sanson scored two goals. Abby Hurlbert had two assists. Wamogo’s Jessie Allendorf had 22 saves for the Warriors. Thomaston is 10-0-0-1, Wamogo is 3-6-1.
Housatonic 3, Litchfield 1 >> Behind strong defense, Housatonic defeated Litchfield. Housatonic’s Rebecca Grossman, Abby Merrill and Allyn Christy each scored for the Mountaineers. Litchfield’s Mariah Eykellhoff scored the lone goal for the Cowgirls and was assisted by Sarah Sapiro. Litchfield’s Melissa Brodeur made 17 saves.
