Just a sophomore, Danae Rivers of Wilbur Cross already has quite the impressive track resume. She can now add one more accomplishment to the list.
Thursday afternoon, Rivers was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Track and Field Girls’ Athlete of the Year.
Rivers had a near flawless season on the track, as she won the Glenn D. Loucks mile (4:49.62) in early May, swept the Southern Connecticut Conference middle distance events, winning the 800, 1,600 and anchoring the 4×400.
At the Class MM state meet, Rivers tripled again, winning all three events. At the State Open, she turned in one of her best performances as she claimed the Open 1,600 crown in a State Open record time of 4:47.45. She also won the 800 and anchored the 4×4 to a first-place finish, and a third place team finish.
