WOODBRIDGE >> The Amity girls’ track team won its third straight Southern Connecticut Conference Eastern Sectional title Tuesday afternoon at Amity High.
The Spartans scored 141 points to claim the crown, while Cheshire finished runner-up with 99.50 and Hillhouse was third (95).
Amity won five of the events as the 4×800 team of Lisa Gorham, Grace Leyden, Melissa Taggart and Emily Criscuolo were victorious to start the afternoon with a winning time of 9:45.79.
Taggart won the 800 (2:27.33), while teammate Zoie Reed won the 200 (25.75) and set a meet record in the long jump in a leap of 18-00.50. Amity’s Zoe Moscato won the javelin (105-05).
Also setting meet records were the Cheshire 4×1 (49.88), Hillhouse’s Jaliyah White in the 100 hurdles (15.68), Laurel Bailey of Shelton in the pole vault (10-06, tied) and Sheehan’s Michaela Mendygral in the disc (119-07).
On the boys’ side, Hillhouse held off Amity to win the title with 143 points. The Spartans finished runner-up with 139 points and Shelton was third (108).
The Academics dominated on the track winning seven events.
Senior Akiel Smith won the 100 (10.92) and 200 (22.24), setting meet records in both. Teammate Shawn Fletcher picked up victories in the 110 (14.82) and 300 meter hurdles (39.71) and Brendan Stewartson won the 400 (50.89). The 4×100 relay of Darius Wise, Tyreise Swain, Christopher Dickey and Smith set a meet record of 43.13.
The 4×4 ended the meet with a win, running 3:29.11.
