TORRINGTON >> Spring is coming because Max Preps says so.
And with it, more hope than ever for an area softball team.
The national sports service, Max Preps, ranks Torrington High School’s team No. 88 in their Top 100 Preseason national list.
The Red Raiders are the only Connecticut team on the list featuring lots of teams from warmer-weather climates at or near the top and they are bringing back the entire starting lineup, including University of North Carolina bound pitcher Sydney Matzko (23-1 with a 0.27 ERA and 345 strikeouts last season), except for third baseman Baylee Vinisko.
Last season Torrington, coached by Maryann Musselman won the NVL regular season and NVL tournament title with a 23-0 record before losing to Bunnell in the second round of the Class L State Tournament.
