TORRINGTON >> Torrington boys soccer (8-4-1) stuck to business with a 4-1 win over Waterbury Career Academy (1-13) Friday evening at the Robert H. Frost Sports Complex.
A day after pounding Derby 6-0, the Red Raiders led WCA 3-0 in the first 13 minutes at home on Friday.
Junior forward Naseem Thompson scored the first of his three goals two minutes into the game, in close to the Spartan goal.
Ten minutes later, midfielder Alex Segovia led a classic charge down the middle, flicking a pass to Thompson for his second goal.
Seconds later, Nick Dalla Valle sent the ball out of a pileup in front of WCA’s goal to Austin Todd. Todd’s shot came back in for the 3-0 score.
Bench players poured in from there.
“We don’t want to get sloppy; we want to work on things,” said Coach Mike Fritch.
That was WCA Coach Dave Vacca’s refrain as well.
“It’s a first-year program. We have five seniors; the rest are freshmen and sophomores,” he said. “We have a lot to work on, but we’ve made progress through the season.”
Thompson scored again 16 minutes into the second half for his 23rd goal of the season.
Jason Bello scored for the Spartans with seven minutes left.
Waterbury Career goes to 10-1-2 Woodland Monday.
The Raiders visit 5-8-1 St. Paul Catholic.
