Coming in at No. 2 on the 2013 Litchfield County best fall team list is the Torrington boys soccer team.
The Red Raiders had a great season. They went 15-1 in the regular season, losing only to Naugatuck, earning them the Copper Division title.
In the process they broke the school record for wins in a season and senior goaltender Zack Paniati broke the school record with 11 shutouts during the regular season.
Torrington’s roster was led by a group of seniors Shane Bierfeldt, John McCarthy, Seth Gesmondi, Nick Mancini, Chris Parrotta, Shane Walker, Dennis Cardenas, Juan Munoz, Griffin Pelkey and Paniati, and those seniors were a big reason for the success they had this season.
During the postseason the Red Raiders breezed through the NVL Tournament until they fell to Naugatuck for the second time this season in the finals.
With its excellent season the Red Raiders got the No. 4 seed in the Class L State Tournament. After winning the first round matchup against Woodstock Academy the Red Raiders led 2-0 ahead of Pomperaug in the second half on their second round matchup.
Pomperaug would go on and score two goals in the second half and then again in overtime to knockout the Red Raiders.
Though their season ended a lot earlier then they wanted, the Red Raiders were the most successful Torrington team this past fall and one of the best teams in Torrington school history.
With that said, the Torrington boys soccer team was voted at the No. 2 team in Litchfield County from this past fall.
