Thursday's Middletown roundup: Berlin boys soccer edges Middletown

BOYS SOCCER
BERLIN 2, MIDDLETOWN 1 >> Alex Bednarek scored two goals and Brian Bostrom made six saves as the Redcoats (5-1) edged Middletown Thursday night at Berlin. Joe Pizzuto scored the Bue Dragons goal, with an assist from Umberto Spada. Chris Rodo finished with 14 saves for Middletown (2-4-1).

VALLEY REGIONAL 4, MORGAN 2 (OT) >> Matt Cole scored two goals, and Kevin Cole and Jack Simineau each had one goal to lead the Warriors (4-1) to an overtime win at Clinton. Tyler Riberio and Devon Bornstein had one goal apiece for Morgan (2-3).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
COGINCHAUG 3, HALE-RAY 1 >> The Blue Devils improved to 5-2 with a 25-23, 26-24, 22-25 and 25-17 SLC victory at Durham. Haley Brandt had 12 kills and Megan Quinley had 11 assists for Coginchaug.Tara Schwenzfeier had 19 assists and Andrea Wordell had seven blcoks for Hale-Ray (5-3).

FIELD HOCKEY
GUILFORD 2, MERCY 1>> Caroline Napoli had one goal and one assist, and Katy Jankura had one goal to lead the Indians at Middletown. Catherine Hanley scored Mercy’s goal, while Shannon Murphy made six saves. Mercy is 0-8.

HADDAM-KILLINGWORTH 5, VALLEY REGIONAL 0>> Kiley Anderson had two goals and one assist, and Meghan Cerino made two saves to lead the Cougars Wednesday afternoon at Higganum. Jen Halleck, Tristen Perry and Allison Sheahan each had one goal for H-K (5-1). Bry Tobin made eight saves for the Warriors (2-2-1).
