The Thomaston Golden Bears great season, 18-1, came to an end in the Class S semifinals. With a spot in the State Championship on the line the Golden Bears, from the Berkshire League, ran into Northwest Catholic (19-1) of the CCC and lost 5-2. With six of the seven matches going on right away, the match was decided in the first four matches as Northwest Catholic won the third singles, the second doubles and then the third singles and the third double, all closely, to clinch the win. Thomaston’s Mackenzie Blair and Megan Fitzgerald each won their singles matches, in three sets, to record the only wins for Thomaston.
“We had four very close matches,” said Thomaston head coach Jeff Dauphinais, who was happy with his team’s season. “I thought we definitely had a chance to get here and see what we could do.”
