Welcome to the fourth episode of The As of Yet Unnamed Football Podcast and… guess what? There’s a new No. 1 team in the state for the second time this season and the second time in four weeks.
Both Sean and Kyle were in Trumbull to watch the No. 3 Blue Wave beat the No. 1 Hogs, 22-7. The duo brings us their thoughts from the game.
This week we debut our mailbag session where we answer questions sent in by the fans from around the state. Thanks to everybody for sending in questions.
And, finally, we’re three weeks into the season and 33 teams are still undefeated. So, we decided to look at a handful of the teams and decide these unbeaten teams are contenders or pretenders in their respected classes.

Re: Contender or Pretender
Fold Warde & Ffld Ludlowe both have a chance to make the States…IF either of them can beat Danbury and win their Thanksgiving Day game against one another. They both have tough games left, but either could finish with an 8-2 record. So, Contenders or Pretenders?
Warde and Ludlowe will both end up with 4 or 5 losses. Not sure what your smoking.
Crazy Eddie is indeed CRAZY! It’s not happening.
But at least the FCIAC brass listened to the complaints of Fairfield parents (especially Ludlowe) and gave them a lower “tier” type schedule. Very smart job by the FCIAC!
Ludlowe’s remaining schedule:
Brien McMahon
Trinity Catholic
Montville
Danbury
Fairfield Warde
Greenwich
New Canaan
I listed them out of order, Warde is Ludlowe’s end-of-season Thanksgiving opponent, New Canaan is the game before that. The first 5 on the list are winable for Ludlowe, which would get them to 7 wins. If they take care of business that means they need one upset; a big one, yes, but just one upset; to get to 8 wins. I may be wrong, but 8 wins usually gets you into the LL playoffs. I’m not that crazy, I looked before I asked the contender/pretender question. Not likely for Warde, they’ve got 3 tough games left where they would need two upsets to get to 8 wins, but don’t be surprised if Ludlowe is still in the mix late.
WW – the FCIAC ‘brass’ didn’t give Ludlowe, or anybody else, any breaks; nor did they make any teams’ schedule tougher. Does ANYBODY look past a team’s printed schedule? Try FCIAC.net, football standings, for some enlightenment. The two FCIAC divisions ( which do change every couple of years) are laid out there. Like every other tier, division, conference of 10 or less teams, everybody plays everybody else once. If that doesn’t fill the 10 game schedule, they play inter-divisional (or tier) games to fill in. Except for the Thanksgiving games, the non-division opponents rotate. In the FCIAC, if you’re in the 8 team division, you need to schedule an out of Conference opponent to get to 10. If some schedules look easier or tougher, it’s more luck of the draw then anything else.
