Welcome back to The Meat Grinder, GameTimeCT’s newly-rebranded high school football podcast and, with summer underway and a host of events going down this weekend, it was time to hop back on the pod to talk CT football.
Host and GameTimeCT editor Sean Patrick Bowley quickly discusses this weekend’s two events, the Hand Grip It and Rip It 7-on-7 passing competition, which begins Friday afternoon at the Surf Club and continues into Saturday. Then we have the return of the Super 100 Connecticut All-Star football game on Saturday, 4:30 p.m. at New Britain.
Joining us this week is none other than Hand coach Dave Mastroianni, who has won all but one game during his two-year tenure as Steve Filippone’s successor, including the last two Class L championships.
Sean is then joined by editor Pete Paguaga as we talk with Coach Mastro about this year’s highly-touted Hand squad, led by QB Phoenix Billings and DL Ben Corniello (among many, many others), and some of the strong competition the Tigers now face thanks to the Connecticut HS Football Scheduling Alliance and (presumably) in the Class L playoffs, where New Canaan and two-time state champion St. Joseph have also set up shop.
It’s another long interview, just about an hour, and there were plenty of other topics discussed and/or laughed about, so put it on the phone or the car and settle in for some football talk.
Just hit the player, above, or — if that doesn’t show, you can listen to a direct link on Soundcloud.
