Staples only played one game (which is more than many northern Connecticut teams were afforded), but the Wreckers’ 4-3 rally past Xavier in the SCC-FCIAC Challenge on Saturday was enough to make them the unanimous No. 1 team in the GameTimeCT Top 10 for Week 2.
But with the SCC going 11-4 vs. the FCIAC over the weekend, this week’s top 10 has trended more toward the SCC, with Cheshire, Hand and Notre Dame-West Haven all entering the Top 10, giving the SCC five total along with No. 4 Fairfield Prep (3-0) and No. 6 Amity (1-1).
Cheshire was the biggest mover of the week, going from unranked to No. 3 after wins over Amity and Trumbull.
Fairfield Prep and St. Joseph (2-0) also made large leaps, going from a tie at No. 8 to No. 4 and 5, respectively.
Westhill, Branford and Simsbury dropped out.

Why even bother separating schools into different classes if strength of schedule is not considered a meaningful factor when CT ranks its high school sports teams?
@Strength of Schedule: I agree 100%.In a perfect world, lack of a difficult regular season would be offset by a challenging playoff run.Unfortunately this is not always accomplished.High School Hockey and now Basketball proves it’s deserving #1 team on the Field/Court of play.Just look at whom 5 sports writers voted #1 in the state for Football. That Team was VERY good and deserves MUCH recognition but was by no means a #1 ,especially with the Teams they defeated in the Regular or Post Season.
Actually they got Football right for number one but there were several LL schools better than the Class S and Class L teams that were ranked higher than them- several-
@ SOS.Agreed they got it right in Football but Darien Did not receive all First Place votes
Those Daniel Hand boys still up to something down there?!?! Dynasty.
