Darien was voted the state’s No. 1 team during the preseason and carried that ranking wire-to-wire as they finished in the top spot in the final Connecticut Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll this week.
The Blue Wave captured the Class L championship with a 12-6 victory over rival New Canaan on Saturday at Jonathan Law in Milford. New Canaan finished with the No. 2 ranking, a place it held for the entire season.
The FCIAC swept the top five spots in the poll, with Wilton at No. 3, Ridgefield at No. 4, and Staples at No. 5.
Cheshire, the SCC runner-up, took the No. 6 spot, followed by No. 7 Ludlowe.
New Fairfield, which rolled to its third consecutive Class S championship by beating Stonington 18-5 on Saturday, finished at No. 8.
Class M champion East Lyme moved into the top 10 and finished at No. 9. The Vikings claimed a state title with a 10-6 win over St. Joseph on Saturday.
Finishing off the poll was a seventh FCIAC team: The Greenwich Cardinals at No. 10.
