The state playoffs begin next week. Many schools will be traveling outside of Fairfield County for games. Here are five places outside of our area to enjoy a late-fall playoff game or state championship.
Veteran’s Stadium, New Britain
This stadium plays host to both soccer and football state finals and for good reason. It is big, holding 8,500 people in the bleachers with more room to stand around the track. Parking is also ample, which is a benefit if multiple state finals are taking place on the same day.
Ken Strong Stadium, West Haven
Close to the water in West Haven, there is always a breeze blowing at Strong and in December it can feel downright frigid. The stadium holds 5,000 people with more room to stand and annually hosts soccer and football state finals.
Wickham Park, Manchester
Home to the CIAC state open cross country meets, Wickham Park is where every runner in Connecticut wants to be. The setting is stunning with rolling fall foliage set in front of the city skyline. It is a wonderful place to take in a race.
Cottone Field, Wethersfield High School
If you are involved in field hockey, you know this field. Home to the state championships most years.
East Haven High School
The school seems as if it was designed to host volleyball state finals, which is why the championships are held there. The gym can get really loud during games. The gym is spacious while feeling intimate and the end-zone seating is a huge plus.
