Class LL
South Windsor at Greenwich
- On the Air: WGCH 1490-AM
- Dave Hodge has coached South Windsor from 0-10 just two seasons ago to the school’s glorious first state postseason since 1988. QB Connor Kapisak and the Bobcats must now travel all the way downstate to face high-flying and physical Greenwich, led by Gavin Muir at QB, Tysen Comizio and a big and strong front coached by John Marinelli. @GreenwichSports reporting
West Haven at Darien
- On the Air: NFHS Network
- All-State back Kyle Godfrey and the Westies raced by Shelton in the quarterfinals, looking for their first state championship berth since 2003. Standing in their way is Darien, the two-time defending Class LL champs. The arrest of at least two key players has caused a stir statewide. Can the Blue Wave overcome the scrutiny and reach their fifth-straight final? @EriconSports @SPBowley reporting
Class L
New Canaan at Masuk
- They’re baaaaack. New Canaan, which has won four-consecutive titles in this class, squeaked into the state playoffs as the No. 8 seed and is already causing havoc. The Rams toppled the No. 1 seed and now take on 5th-seeded Masuk in its first road semifinal since 2011. Can Jack Roberge and Masuk possibly derail QB Drew Pyne and the perennial champs? @DougBonjour reporting.
Windsor at Hand
- On the Air: NFHS Network
- They’re baaaaaack, too. Hand, playing in its first postseason since 2013 and the first under new coach Dave Mastroianni, get ready to face Tomasz Johnson and playoff regular Windsor. Both teams boast strong defenses, led by their linebacking corps. Who will buckle first at the Surf Club? @MikeMadera2 reporting.
Class M
Berlin at Killingly
- On the Air: NFHS Network
- Spencer Lockwood, a frontrunner for state player of the year, and the Redmen have been to the semifinals the last two seasons and have yet to win. The school, having its best season in over 60 years, is bulldozing toward a first state championship berth since 1995. Berlin, coached by the Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz, could prove a stingy opponent.
SMSA at Barlow
- Who picked these two teams to reach the semifinals in the preseason? Nobody. SMSA, a scrappy and young upstart co-op program, and Barlow, for years mainly an SWC also-ran, have gotten hot at the right time. They are both just 48 minutes from playing in their first state championship. @RyanLacey11 reporting
Class S
Rocky Hill at St. Joseph
- Rocky Hill and its bruising double wing led by Joe Catania and Joe Ferriera are trying to get the Terriers back to the state final, where they lost last year. But St. Joseph, a catholic FCIAC powerhouse sparked by QB David Summers, might be unlike anything the unbeaten Terriers have seen. @nikonnash reporting
Stafford at Ansonia
- On the Air: NFHS Network
- The Chargers have, once again, been relentless behind CCSU commit Markell Dobbs. Stafford, fresh off its first state playoff win in school history (in only its second appearance, was dumped by Ansonia 48-0 in last year’s quarterfinals. @NHRJoeMorelli reporting.
