The Southern Connecticut Diamond Club, Inc. will honor 30 area high school baseball players at its annual awards banquet on Sunday, June 9, at Monticello’s Restaurant in Meriden.
Each player will be presented with the John “Whitey” Piurek “There’s No ‘I’ In Team” Award. Named for the longtime West Haven High coach, the honor is awarded to the member of each team who gives most unselfishly to his program.

Fritz (Morgan); Nick Mancini (North Branford); Ben Sbabo (North Haven); Austin Ormrod (Notre Dame-West Haven); Peyton Thiel (Platt); Jagger Art (Platt Tech); Evan Wilkinson (Sheehan); Hudson Meyer (Shelton); Brendan Kavanaugh (Southington); Tavish Ernst (Westbrook); Derek Baker (West Haven); Andrew Marrero (Wilbur Cross); and John Lasko (Xavier).
In addition, the club will present the Samuel Burrell Jr. Coach of the Year award to Mike Lussier of Cheshire. Also, the George Klivak Team of the Year will be presented to Cheshirel. Both awards are voted on by the area coaches and members of the SCDC.
