Maria Hanchuk of South Windsor High School as its 2018-19 Gatorade Connecticut Softball Player of the Year this morning by the organization. Hanchuk is the first softball player from South Windsor to win the award.
The 5-foot-5 senior lefty led the Bobcats to a 20-0 record; she posted an 18-0 record with a 0.49 ERA and 242 strikes. Hanchuk also had a .455 batting average at the plate.

Hanchuk — who will play at Endicott College — has volunteered as a yearbook editor and as a member of the school’s freshman-transition team according to Gatorade’s Press release.
