When Foran team manager Cynthia Colon’s mother, Zory Mack, was diagnosed with breast cancer, the Lions decided they wanted to do their part to help out.
So, captains Fallon Bevino and Jess Harkness, with the assistance of several team mothers, decided to help provide meals for the family using Mealtrain.com, a free online service where participants sign up for dates in which they prepare a meal and deliver it to the family.
“It feels really good to help out,” Bevino said. “Cynthia is such a sweet girl and she can’t manage the team this year because of the circumstances surrounding her mom being sick.”
Bevino said the first meal was presented on April 28 and around five meals in total have been delivered to date.
“From what they said, they have been nothing but grateful,” Bevino said.
The event will likely continue through the end of the softball season.
“We’ll probably continue doing it through the end of May, depending on how successful it is,” Bevino said.
In addition, Foran will hold a baked goods sale during the Lions’ contest with Law on May 14 and one other home game to be announced. Proceeds will go towards Colon’s family.
