The Stratford Brakettes will take on a team of Connecticut high school softball all-stars Thursday, 6:30 p.m. at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field in Stratford. The teams will play one nine-inning game.
Included on the Connecticut All-Star team will be pitchers Nicole Williams of St. Joseph and Seymour standout Raeanne Geffert, who led her team to the Class M championship last Friday with a 1-0 win over Rocky Hill.
Also included will be Danbury infielder Julia Lener, Foran outfielder Natalia Hart, Trumbull outfielder Lauren Zielinski, Abbott Tech shortstop Kayla Jessup, Oxford shortstop Meghan Sastrm and Masuk outfielder Hailey Kobza.
Completing the high school roster will be Charline Plasczynski of Bristol Eastern, Megan Hodgdon of Cheshire, Paige Mickensuliase of Maloney, East Haven’s Laura Anderson and Allison Luzzzi, Kaylie Crosby of East Lyme, Renee Radavich of East Hampton, and Brianna Casiano of Met Life Learning Center.
Tolland’s Bill Pompa will coach the all-stars.
Pitching for the Brakettes against the all-stars will be Masuk’s Tatum Buckley and Norwalk’s Patti Sciglimpaglia.
Buckley threw a no-hitter last weekend to lead the Brakettes to a 2-0 victory over the Lady Rage of East Peoria, Ill. in the championship of the 51st St. Louis Saints Invitational. The Brakettes won six games in the tournament, including four via the mercy run rule.
Sciglimpaglia won her only start, an 8-0 mercy-ruled win over St. Louis Academy in the finale of pool play last Sunday. Her twin sister Mary will be her batterymate for the Brakettes, who enter play with an 8-0 record and 33-game win streak overall.
Cheshire coach Kristine Drust will be returning to coach with the Brakettes against the all-stars after her Rams won the school’s first state title, a 5-0 victory over Amity in the Class LL title game.
Buckley, Val Suto, Britt Lampert, Jordan Whitle and newcomer Summer Damiano were the big hitters in last week’s tourney success. The Brakettes enjoyed a 43-2 scoring edge in the tournament.
The Brakettes will be selling tickets for the Battle of the Sexes III throughout the weekend. In addition to luxury box seats for $20, the Brakettes have reserved seats, normally $12 each, for $8.
