WESTBROOK >> The Haddam-Killingworth girls outdoor track and field team captured the Shoreline Conference championship for the first time since 2006 on Wednesday at Westbrook High School.
The Cougars edged Coginchaug to claim the team title.
“We knew it was going to be close,” said H-K coach Matt Diglio. “Coginchaug is a real strong team. It was a great meet. We had a lot of girls who stepped up today. We also got some unbelievable all-around individual performances.”
Cougars senior Leah Pfrommer won four events for the third consecutive year.
“I don’t think any athlete in this conference has ever done that before,” said Diglio.
Pfrommer captured the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump titles.
H-K senior Sarah Smith and sophomore Maddie Brandon were double winners. Smith won the shot put and discus events, while Brandon finished first in the 1600 and 3200.
Old Saybrook captured the boys championship. Haddam-Killingworth was the runner-up.
