Simsbury football falls to New Britain in overtime

Gametime CT | October 23, 2013

The Simsbury High School football team put up a strong effort, holding New Britain to seven points in regulation, but fell to the visitors, 14-7 in overtime last Friday.

New Britain took a 7-0 lead when Mike Robinson hauled in a 40-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Gaskin and Elvin Silva kicked the point after in the second quarter.

Simsbury, now 1-5, tied the game in the final period when Brad Helmkamp went over from one-yard out with 6:30 remaining in the contest and Kyle Dougherty kicked the point after.
Kyshuun Gunn ran six yards for a touchdown in overtime and Silva kicked the point after to give the visitors the win in OT.

Helmkamp ran for 100 yards on 16 carries.

“We have tons of young kids stepping up with a small core of seniors keeping the team positive each and every day,” said head coach Jeff Osborne. “The defense has played well the last two weeks. Turnovers are hurting the offense immensely, we have two of our starting offensive linemen from week one out for the year. But we constantly strive to improve.”

Simsbury plays at South Windsor at 1 p.m. Saturday.
