With three state championship games in the books and Ansonia, New Canaan and St. Joseph now polishing their newfound hardware this morning, it was time to get ‘The Day After’ reactions from our weekly hosts and from the three state championship coaches: Ansonia’s Tom Brockett, New Canaan’s Lou Marinelli and St. Joseph’s Joe Della Vecchia.
Brockett talked about his team’s 15-0 season, the illustrious career of his seniors — who never lost a varsity game — and about Arkeel Newsome, the state’s all-time leading rusher.
Marinelli spoke about his team’s dominant performance in the snow to avenge its only loss of the year, he spoke of the great class and how it came together this year to complete one of the school’s best seasons. He also gave his thoughts on who should be No. 1 at the end of the year and even spoke briefly about how the state could possibly match up the best teams.
Finally, Della Vecchia spoke of his team’s dominating ride to a third state championship in five years and the school’s 11th overall. He spoke of how his team overcame the tough conditions to roll past Brookfield in the final and even addressed some criticisms about his team’s point totals late in the game and about rumors of him possibly leaving (spoiler alert: probably not).
Finally, Kyle Brennan of the Republican-American/NVL Football Blog and I talked about our thoughts on the finals and the last state championship of the year and the end of the 2013 football season.
It’s the final ‘Show’ of the year. Enjoy.
