LITCHFIELD — Melvin Kolenovic scored 18 points and Peri Basimakopoulos had 17 as No. 16-seeded Shelton knocked off unbeaten No. 1 seed Wamogo in a Division III first-round game Thursday night.
Shelton’s victory snapped a 23-game win streak for the Berkshire League regular-season and tournament champions dating back to last year’s loss to Cromwell in the Division V championship game. (Cromwell also unbeaten this year, lost its second-round Division IV game to St. Joseph on Wednesday.)
The win propelled the Gaels to the school’s first state quarterfinal appearance since 1990.
