Sagnella had been an assistant coach for the Trojans. He was named the Connecticut High School Coaches Association’s assistant coach of the year after LHK won the CIAC Division III championship, the program’s first title, defeating crosstown rival Sheehan 6-2 in the final on March 14.
Trojans head coach Rich Minnix departed soon after the season, ultimately taking over at Division I Notre Dame-Fairfield, and he said at the time he hoped Sagnella would succeed him.
