Sacred Heart Greenwich is heading into its showdown against FAA field hockey rival Greenwich Academy in top form.
The Tigers, who visit Greenwich Academy on Saturday are still undefeated after posting a 7-0 win over visiting Rye Country Day School on Thursday.
Sacred Heart took a 5-0 lead into halftime. Beth Yeager scored the game’s first goal at the 26:03 mark, then tallied again less than two minutes later.
Yeager added a third goal off a penalty stroke with 15:42 remaining in the opening half and Caroline Nemec and Sydney Gallop added first-half goals.
Fiona Lewis and Yeager each tallied in the second half.
Olivia Caponiti made three saves in goal for the Tigers, who play GA on Saturday at 12 p.m.
“Today’s result helped the team get mentally prepared for our next match,” SHG Alex Gheorghe said.
GREENWICH ACADEMY SOCCER
A hat trick from Katie Goldsmith powered Greenwich Academy to a 4-0 victory over visiting Greens Farms Academy in an FAA game held on Thursday.
The game was rematch of last season’s FAA Tournament final won by GA.
Goldsmith’s first goal came in the 10th minute off a corner kick from Tessa Brooks. In the 20th minute, Brooks worked her way past several defenders for a goal. A through ball from Brooks found the foot of Goldsmith, who finished in the 25th minute.
In the 29th minute, Goldsmith created a turnover and tallied, giving GA a 4-0 lead. Ella Fugelsang made two saves for the Gators, who were also sparked by Taylor Glanville. GA hosts Taft School Saturday at 5 p.m.
SACRED HEART SOCCER
Sacred Heart Greenwich posted an important 4-2 FAA win over visiting Hopkins School on Thursday. Trailing 1-0, the Tigers evened the score with a goal from Fernanda Serna in the 27th minute.
In the 29th minute, Alana Frederick gave the hosts a 2-1 lead. Amelia Sheehan made it 3-1, tallying off an assist from Frederick in the 51st minute.
After Hopkins scored in the 67th minute, the Tigers made it 4-2, courtesy of a goal Isabel DeVita. Sheehan set DeVita up for the tally.
“We attacked them with our speed and did a lot of the little things well,” SHG coach Stuart Smith said. “Our eighth-grader Madison Hart really was outstanding for us today.”
SACRED HEART VOLLEYBALL
The Sacred Heart Greenwich volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches on Wednesday, defeating visiting Westover School, 3-0.
The Tigers won the match by set scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-21. Junior Olivia Lockwood tallied 16 kills and four digs, while senior Kellie Ulmer notched nine kills, 14 digs and five aces for Sacred Heart.
Fran Iraola, a junior, added four kills and junior Morgan Wilkens rang up 26 assists, four digs and three aces in the win. Also leading Sacred Heart was sophomore Lucy Catalano (three aces, three kills, one dig, one block).
Sacred Heart hosts Masters School on Friday.
GREENWICH ACADEMY VOLLEYBALL
Greenwich Academy improved its record to 6-3 by sweeping visiting Hamden Hall Country Day School in an FAA match held on Wednesday.
The Gators won the match, 25-4, 25-11, 25-20. Whitney Wise posted 12 aces and six kills to pace Greenwich Academy. Miranda Calver had three kills, while Sofi Marti had seven assists and three aces, while Casey Brower added five digs in the winning effort.
Megan Belcastro registered five digs for Greenwich Academy, which hosts Taft School on Saturday at 3 p.m.
