Behind a seven-goal first half, the Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey team rolled to a resounding 8-0 win over visiting Choate Rosemary Hall in its regular season finale.
The Tigers finished the regular season undefeated and will enter next week’s FAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed. They will receive a first-round bye, then host an FAA Tournament semifinal-round game on Wednesday.
Beth Yeager scored three goals during the first half on Saturday, while Hanke Govaert tallied twice. MaryGrace Farrell and Caroline Nemec also scored during the first half.
In the second half, Katie Keller tallied for the Tigers, who received two saves from Olivia Caponiti and outshot Choate, 18-2.
“It was always our goal to have a perfect season with a perfect record and this team achieved just that,” Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe said. “We are extremely proud of their work ethic, ambition and desire to finish strong in each match.”
Sacred Heart paid tribute to seniors Sydney Gallop, Keller, Morgan Smith, and Sally Carter on its Senior Day on Saturday. Smith Gallop are co-captains.
“It was a great day of hockey to honor them as we ended our regular season,” Gheorghe said.
