The Greenwich High school boys and girls cross country teams concluded their regular season by posting impressive times in their meet against Staples, Wilton and Brien McMahon at Greenwich Point on Monday.
On the girls’ side, Cardinals junior Mari Noble won the 3-mile race with a time of 18:21.20. Senior Tori Greenberg of Staples was second in 19:41, followed by Wilton sophomore Emily Mrakovcic (19:42.06).
Senior Zoe Harris from Greenwich placed ninth with a time of 20:20.34 and teammate Kaitlyn Lisjak, a sophomore, was 10th in 20:21.34.
Eadoin Clarke, a Cardinals junior, finished 13th overall in 20:29.41 and Greenwich sophomore Caterina Gaspar was 17th (21:12.89).
On the boys’ side, Morgan Fierro won the race in 16:05.69 for Staples and teammate Nicholas Taubenheim was the runner-up in 16:06.36. Senior Teddy O’Kane of Staples was third in 16:08.18, while Greenwich senior Alexander Bein took fourth in 16:09.61.
Zachary Jelinek gave Greenwich an 11th-place finish in 17:13.33.
Greenwich’s boys team beat Wilton and McMahon and lost to Staples. The Cardinals’ girls squad defeated Staples and lost to Wilton.
Up next for Greenwich is the FCIAC Championships, which takes place on Tuesday at Waveny Park at 2 p.m.
GREENWICH HIGH VOLLEYBALL
Another match, another win for the Cardinals.
Greenwich moved its record to 11-0 by defeating host Fairfield Warde, 3-0, on Monday. The Cardinals won the match by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-11. Junior Thalia Doundoulakis recorded 18 service points and nine aces, while junior Celeste Walstrom-Vangor had nine service points for the Cardinals.
Sophomore Heather Zitzmann added two kills, two aces, 14 digs, 22 assists and 10 service points in the winning effort. Lilly Saleeby, a junior, posted eight kills to go along with three aces for Greenwich, which visits Danbury on Friday.
SACRED HEART GREENWICH VOLLEYBALL
The Tigers swept Millbrook School on the road, 3-0, in a match held on Monday. Sacred Heart won the match, 25-10, 25-13, 25-14.
Junior Olivia Lockwood posted 13 kills, 12 digs and two aces to lead Sacred Heart (9-4). Eighth-grader Emilia Bernal had five kills, 19 digs and one ace, while junior Eva Canellakis tallied 12 digs and four aces.
Junior Morgan Wilkens (21 assists, five digs) and sophomore Lucy Catalano (seven kills) also paced the victors. Sacred Heart is in action again on Thursday against host Greenwich Academy at 4 p.m.
GREENWICH HIGH FIELD HOCKEY
Greenwich improved its record to 8-2 with a 2-0 road win against Fairfield Ludlowe on Monday night.
Demis Janis scored both of the Cardinals’ goals, her first one coming 16 minutes into the first half. Johnna Pastore had one assist for Greenwich.
“We started off strong with great ball movement,” GHS coach Megan Wax said.
Janis’ second goal came with two minutes remaining.
Greenwich visits Mamaroneck, N.Y., Thursday at 5 p.m., then visits Danbury on Saturday at 11 a.m.
