Greenwich extended its winning streak to three games, edging non-conference boys hockey foe Northwest Catholic, 3-2, on Monday at Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink.
With the win, Greenwich evened its record to 4-4. Junior forward Jack Hutchins registered two goals and one assist to lead the Cardinals, who tallied in each period.
Sophomore Charlie Zolin earned the win in goal for the Cardinals. Northwest Catholic (4-5) took a 1-0 lead when Noah Melanson scored with 4:46 remaining in the first period.
The Cardinals knotted the score at 1-1 on junior forward Jake Shreders goal 18 seconds later. Hutchins assisted on the goal. The home team took a 2-1 edge on Hutchins’ tally at the 9:20 mark of the second period. Sophomore forwards Wesley Zolin and Ivan Kovalev each assisted on Hutchins’ goal.
Northwest Catholic pulled even on a goal from Connor Melanson with 28 seconds to go in the second period. The game-winner occured 43 seconds into the third period on Shreder’s second goal. Wesley Zolin and junior defenseman Ben Bates each set up the go-ahead goal.
Greenwich is on the road against Trumbull on Wednesday, then hosts Fairfield Ludlowe Sunday at 7 p.m.
