A pair of second-half goals lifted the Brunswick School soccer team to a 5-3 win over visiting King School in a game held on Wednesday.
Brunswick jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes. A Henry Foster header off a throw-in from John Dunn gave the Bruins (7-5-1) a 1-0 lead. In the third minute of play, Kyle Raker raced ahead and sent a centering pass to Patrick Keller in front of the King net. Keller finished in front, giving the Bruins a 2-0 advantage.
The fast-paced scoring continued, as the Vikings trimmed the deficit to 2-1, converting a shot in the fifth minute.
Just two minutes later, Raker drew a foul near the King net, resulting in a penalty kick. Foster converted penalty kick to give the hosts a 3-1 lead.
King capped the high-scoring first half, with a tally in the 15th minute, making it 3-2.
In the second half, the visitors knotted the game at 3-3 in the 60th minute, converting a penalty kick tally.
Seven minutes later, Brunswick’s Michael Huber sent a long cross into the box and Stevie Lopez converted the pass into a go-ahead goal.
Holding a 4-3 lead, Freddie Gazal added an insurance goal for the Bruins in the 85th minute.
Brunswick goalie Eric Meindl made six saves and fought off several King crosses throughout the contest.
GREENWICH ACADEMY VOLLEYBALL
Greenwich Academy dropped a 3-1 decision to Taft School in a matchup held on Wednesday. Taft won the match, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-11.
Evie Kay Girard registered 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces, while Whitney Wise had 10 kills, three blocks and 13 digs for the Gators (8-4).
Valeska Lasky had 28 assists, two blocks and two aces for Greenwich Academy, which visits Berkshire on Saturday.
