Jose Riera was Brunswick School’s star on the slopes at the 2019 New England Prep School Class B Alpine Ski Championships at Ski Sundown in Hartford on Wednesday.
Riera, who has flourished all season for the Bruins, continued his 2018-2019 for the team, placing fifth overall in the giant slalom competition and sixth in the slalom at the NEPSAC Class B Championships.
In the slalom, Riera had the seventh-fastest time in his first run (30.88 seconds) and the second-best time in his second run (34.42), which combined, earned him a sixth-place finish overall out of 28 skiers.
The giant slalom saw Riera posted a time of 44.41 seconds in his first run, good for second overall. He clocked in at 41.14 in his next run for a sixth-place finish, putting him fifth out of 28 competitors from 11 teams.
Brunswick placed 10th overall at the New England Prep School Class B Championships, which was won by Pingree School. Governor’s Academy was second, followed by Kents Hill and Taft School.
