PORTLAND>> Portland High School Athletic Director Rick Borg announced Thursday that Christopher Serra has been appointed the new head boys basketball coach at the school.
Serra, 32, served as assistant coach the last three years at Portland and prior to that, served five years as freshman basketball coach at Middletown High School.
He is an alumnus of Xavier High School and Southern Connecticut State University.
“Right now I’m collecting my thoughts about the job ahead. But I look at it as a challenge, a huge challenge,” said Serra. “Any coaching position is always a challenge.”
Borg said that the rest of the coaching staff had yet to be determined, but those decisions will be made shortly.
Serra’s brother, Jason, is the varsity baseball coach at Middletown High.
