Outlook

The rebuilding continues at Coventry, whose 2015 roster features just four seniors.

Coach Tony Bonito started eight sophomores and 10 freshmen a year ago en route to a one-win season. That varsity experience, coupled with the fact that many of those players have returned bigger and stronger, is reason to be optimistic.

“We have a young but talented team,” Bonito said. “We should be much more competitive than last season.”

Coventry’s offensive line is big and will be anchored by seniors Pedro Galarza (6-1, 265), Adam Dziewaltowski (6-1, 250) and David Rosania (5-8, 360), along with sophomores Riley Gardener (6-0, 220) and Brandon Sklenar (6-0, 220).

“These guys have been working hard in the preseason to be the best line that they can be,” Bonito said.

Coventry also has a nice mix of young skill players, led by sophomore quarterback J.P. Roy, a big, physical player who can run and throw.

Three of Coventry’s top receivers from last year return in junior Luke Terrance and sophomores Ryan Lawrence and Nick Pronovost. Lawrence had 12 receptions for 222 yards last season.

The running back corps includes senior Justin Blosser and sophomores Shaun O’Connell, Jacob Carlson, D.J. Trudeau and Ethan Valdes.

Coventry allowed 40.5 points per game a year ago but with assistant coach Dan Lawrence leading the defense Bonito believes that they will be much improved over last season.

Returning to the defense are linebackers Corey Leblond, Valdes, and Roy; defensive linemen Rosania and O’Connell, and defensive backs Pronovost, Carlson and Trudeau.

“It should be an exciting year,” Bonito said.
