Caroline Pennington, a Greenwich Academy sophomore, showcased her sensational swimming skills at the Barbados Open Water Festival on Sunday.
An Old Greenwich resident, Pennington was the women’s champion in the challenging 5K race at the Barbados Open Water Festival. She finished the grueling race in a time of 1:08.49.0. Pennington clocked in at almost three minutes ahead of the second place female swimmer and was also first in her age-group category.
She finished second overall in the 5K race, which included more than 160 swimmers. In the 1.5 K swim at the Barbados Open Water Swimming Festival, Pennington was second among the women’s finishers with a time of 19:43.0. Pennington was third overall in the race, which featured 321 participants and was first in her age-group category. She left the event in Barbados with an impressive collection of medals.
A distance swimmer, Pennington competes for both Badger Swim Club in Larchmont, N.Y., and Greenwich Academy. As a freshman at Greenwich Academy last winter, she won the 500-yard freestyle title at the NEPSAC Division 1 Championships. GA went on to win the NEPSAC team title.
