Jordan Panucci was dismissed as the head coach of the Fitch football program after two seasons, The Day of New London reported Monday.
Panucci, who took over for former coach Mike Emery, was 4-18 in two seasons. Fitch went 0-11 this year.
“I thought I was going to get more time, but it is what it is,” Panucci told The Day. “It was a tough call for the administration and they had to make it.”
A 2005 Fitch graduate who played for both Emery and Ledyard coach Jim Bunocore, Panucci was one of the state’s youngest head football coaches. He was hired at age 26.
“I’m a Fitch guy, and I want the program to succeed more than anybody else. I grew up in this town. I care about this team. My life so far has been about helping this team whether as a player or as a coach, so that makes it difficult, but at the same time, I want the program to succeed.”
