CROMWELL — Steve Paolini scored 20 points and Brendan Kade added 19 as No. 16-seeded St. Joseph dominated unbeaten, top-seeded and No. 7-ranked Cromwell, 74-58 in the Division IV second round Wednesday at Cromwell.
The victory snapped the state’s longest win streak at 27 games dating back to last year. Cromwell, which had a bye into the second round, won last year’s Division V tournament.
St. Joseph (13-9), which finished eighth in the FCIAC standings this year, effectively put the Shoreline Champions away early, leading 33-20 at halftime. The Cadets shot 23-of-34 from the line, Cromwell was 10-of-13.
Gabe Charleston led Cromwell (22-1) with 19 points. Paul Fabbri added 12 for St. Joseph, which advances to face No. 8-seeded Stonington in the Division IV quarterfinals.
