The state couldn’t stop watching Newtown win a CIAC football title in December. Much of the nation couldn’t stop in June.
The Nighthawks’ buzzer-beating, winning touchdown from the Dec. 14 Class LL championship was the runner-up at Sunday night’s ESPY Awards on ESPN in the Can’t-Stop-Watching Moment online vote.
First place in the vote went to a long 3-pointer by Jackson State men’s basketball team manager Thomas “Snacks” Lee.
The Newtown play, Post Corner, a 36-yard touchdown pass from Jack Street to Riley Ward, gave the Nighthawks a 13-7 win over Darien on the seventh anniversary of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
