Though it was a week MSG Varsity’s Mike Quick found dull, frankly (at least in his coverage area), he and Jimmy Cavallo covered a few interesting topics in this week’s edition of Quick Hits Connecticut. Yea, there was some talk about St. Luke’s junior WR/LB Jacob Morganstern (BC’s offered, apparenty), last week’s Shelton-Fairfield Prep game, St. Joseph’s win over Wilton, Stamford’s win over Ridgefield, some nostalgia about Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich’s days at St. Joseph, Dan Orlovsky’s days at Shelton…
The most interesting to us was his thoughts on being at Alumni Field the day Fairfield Prep snapped Cheshire’s 49-game win streak. It was back in 1996 (Mike incorrectly estimated 1993 or 1994), and he was shooting video clips. Mike called it “The most electric atmosphere I’d ever been in for a high school football game.”
“You could not hear that night,” he said. “It was deafening. It was like — I’ve said this to people — as if you were in a domed stadium, it was that loud. I get chills talking about it.”
Cavallo briefly wondered whether Ansonia’s streak would be intact “if they had the likes of St. Joe’s on their schedule? Because that’s where it started, right?” But he concluded “That’s an amazing record, Mike. They haven’t lost since 2010!”
Let’s hope we get something similar at Blue and Gold Stadium.
The conversation begins around 5:20.
Shelton-Prep highlights and comments (“This looked like the week everything would converge in Fairfield with Fairfield Prep and Hand…. how have things changed,” Mike said.), starts at 2:55.
