Jessica Moriarty has been tabbed to replace Jim Eagan as the new West Haven girls basketball coach pending Board of Education approval.
This will be the first head coaching job for Moriarty, 24, a former player at East Haven and at Eastern Connecticut State. Moriarty was notified she was the choice of the interview committee on Friday.
The Board of Education meeting is Oct. 21.
“I would love for the season to start tomorrow,” Moriarty said. “I knew I wanted to continue my basketball career after college. The next best thing is coaching.”
After graduating from Eastern, Moriarty served as an assistant coach under Anthony Russell for the past two seasons. She is a physical education teacher at Bailey Middle School in West Haven.
“West Haven is full of talented athletes. I see that at the middle school every day,” Moriarty said. “I just want to be able to keep these kids in West Haven and get the best from them.”
Eagan coached for 33 seasons, 25 of them at West Haven. He finished with a career record of 346-364.
